Dear Mother,
I wanted to write this letter to you
I addressed it to Heaven
I just wanted you to know
You in my life was a blessing
I carry with me all your love
All your wisdom and precious memories
I feel so alone, now that your gone
I'm like a bird without wings
Just thinking of all you did for me
It puts a smile upon my face
Inside I'm dieing, your one of a kind
No one could ever take your place.
I write this letter to you dear mother
Because I didn't tell you good-bye
I sure hope your up there listening
Cause I say it in my prayers every night
Unlike me you were never selfish
You treated everyone like family
There's no words in the English dictionary
That defines what you mean to me
Mom, I will truly miss you
Without you this world is missing out
I hope I told you I love you enough
Mom, I hope I made you proud
So promise to save me a spot in Heaven
Today, I begin to live right
In Jesus' name Amen

Thank you both for your comments. This was actually wrote from my wife's perspective. She is the one that has lost her mother, I should have defined that a little more. At this time, I studied her and just wrote what I saw from her. Thus, this poem was born. Her mom was just 39 at the time.
I am wiping my eyes as I write this. You have written such a beautiful tribute to your mother. I lost my mother 33 years ago on the 23rd of this month, I was eleven years old. She was the center of our family, and the center of my universe. Thank you for sharing this. Voted up, and beautiful.

My tears are "Salty" as I read this Beautiful, Heartfelt, Tribute to your Mother, Lyricwriter. I too never got to say goodbye to my Mother either. However one night in a Dream she came to me, and we shared that moment and I did get to say goodbye.

I relate to your poem. I lost my mother in 2010. I have wonderful memories and feel I did not do enough for her. I hope my mother heard my heart when I read your poem.
Gypsy, thanks for your thoughtful comment. I am glad to know you have seen her on the other side. Still, some don't believe in that, but I do. It is possible and it is coming out more and more with each passing day.
So sorry to hear that Sholland. I am sure she did, truly. I really believe a mother never leaves her kids. And also, the grandkids. I know it may sound off topic, but her soul can still be there. I believe in the other side. My son experienced such events. He has seen his mom's mother a few different times and the funny thing, he remembers. 3 years old was the first occurence. It shocked me at first. Then he told me she is just making sure I am ok. I learned to accept it.
I am not really get into poems,observing the way you wrote this it looks like an appreciation to our nature of birth.Without her we would,ve been born.
Thanks for the comment. It is about losing a mother, even relates to someone that has been like a mother, even a father. But, it can be related to birth as well Sord. It all is about what the reader sees. It is what it is. Someone wrote a hub about that. I forget who it is?

I love that you wrote this for your wife/ MIL. When Mom died, my husband felt as though he had lost his Mom as well. I felt the same way when his Mom died. You have struck such a universal chord with any of us who have lost a beautiful maternal soul from our immediate world.
