Great Butterfly Tattoo Ideas For Women; Butterfly Tattoo Images and Designs: Butterfly Tattoo Meaning And Symbols
When it comes to the butterfly tattoo on woman, there is no other tattoo style that compares. The butterfly design tattoo is the most popular tattoo style amongst women. The butterfly tattoo can be solid ink, two toned, or multi color. It looks good as a single tattoo, but most butterfly tattoos have trail ink or other images, such as stars or flowers. None the less, the butterfly tattoo can be designed in a variety of different ways. As you see on the right, this design has a great color and the stars and wind trails add beauty to this particular tattoo. This tattoo shows how two colors, blue and black, can be used. Besides yellow, you can see how the black and blue is used in dark scale and a lighter scale. This is a beautiful design.
The butterfly tattoo is also usually mixed with flowers and plants. As you can see from the tattoo on the right, this butterfly tattoo also has a plant.stem. The butterfly is perched onto the plant. I brought this image up because of the dark tones that are associated with the tattoo. The tattoo appears to have a green color, orange, and a dark yellow. There is nothing wrong with this type of tattoo, but I wouldn't advise using dark colors like this tattoo. I like the design, but uses of the color is all wrong. The green in the tattoo is fine, but I believe the dark tone of the other colors takes away from this tattoo. I am not saying that you shouldn't use this design or color at all. I just personally believe the colors are all wrong.
The design on the right is a well designed tattoo on the lower back. Brighter shades of the purple look much better then a dark purple. As you can see, the purple is not very bright, but just enough to really set the tattoo off. You really need to pay attention to your choice of colors when you get your butterfly tattoo. Remember, the outline is usually done in black anyway. This adds enough dark color to the butterfly tattoo anyway. You really want to have the perfect mixture of colors and hues for the butterfly tattoo. Of course, it is your tattoo and you can choose any color that you wish, but I still believe the lighter colors look so much better. The sky blue color and light pink work well with the black outline ink.
In saying that, this is just for the butterfly coloring. Since the butterfly is going to be the main part of your tattoo, you want it to stand out from the rest of the tattoo. For this reason, you would use all original colors for any flowers or landscaping in the background. I don't have a picture of this design, but I saw one the other day and it was absolutely a beautiful tattoo design. The tattoo was on the lower back. The main front of the tattoo or the front piece had a butterfly perched on a blade of grass. Tall grass covered the bottom of the tattoo and it was shaded perfectly with 4 shades of green, with brown and black shades. It was a landscape designed tattoo with the butterfly as the center piece. In the background, the sky was colored with the moon. The sky was bright blue. On the right, there was a cliff and a waterfall. Beautiful trees were in the background and the setting was fall. The leaves were orange, red, and yellow. The waterfall landed in a lake. I thought it was a great landscape design and it inspired me to write about it. I did not have a chance to get into a full conversation, but she told me there was no meaning behind the tattoo. Many women choose the butterfly design because it adds beauty to the body, while other butterfly tattoos can be used for overall meaning.
The design on the right is a beautiful designed butterfly done in light colors. The artwork is based on the Japanese style. The colors go great together and you can also see how great the Japanese art looks with the butterfly. You can see the heart and it may hold overall meaning, probably "love". This tattoo shows how the correct colors make the tattoo stand out more. The background artwork was a great choice for this tattoo.
As you can already see, the butterfly tattoo can be placed in a variety of places on the body. Most women use the lower back or back shoulders for this specific style, but it can also be placed on the stomach, sides, feet, and the upper arms. Out of all these areas, the sides would be the most painful.
BUTTERFLY JEWELRY
The design on the right shows how the butterfly tattoo can be placed with names and hold overall meaning. When we look real close at this tattoo, you can see the different tones that are used for each individual color. It really makes the butterfly standout from the rest of the tattoo. The only issue I would have with this tattoo is the color choice for the ribbon with the names on it. It is done in purple and if you ask me, there really is too much purple on this tattoo. I believe the ribbons should have been done is white or some other color.
The most difficult choice for butterfly tattoos would probably have to be the color choices. Remember, you are going to have this tattoo for the rest of your life and you want to make sure that you get what you want. If you are planning to just use one color, make sure you use different shades of that color. If you are going with multi colors, make sure you don't over use one color. You want to make sure it is the perfect mixture, unlike the one I showed you above. Most tattoo artist already know this, but these types of tattoos can be put on with many different choices of colors. If you are choosing your own colors, make sure they mesh well.
This tattoo on the right used 3 basic colors, blue, purple, and green. The colors are done in a light shade. This makes the tattoo stand out. The design is just one single butterfly with no added images or markings. The tattoo stands out because the colors that are used and also because the butterfly outline is done really well. If you are choosing a single butterfly as your tattoo, you want to make sure the color choice is correct and the design is done very well.
The design on the right shows how original colors can work to make a beautiful tattoo. The design is a realistic butterfly. The outer black outline on this design really makes the tattoo standout, even with the dark colors. The artwork is very detailed and this is the perfect example of how to make darker colors work and mesh.
This design is a upper arm/shoulder tattoo and it shows how multi colors can work well together. I really like the overall design of the tattoo and the location.
The design on the right shows how single colors and multi butterflies can be used. I want you to notice the importance of the artwork in this tattoo. The two butterflies have a wind tail and it gives the tattoo the appearance of motion. The butterflies are nicely drawn and detailed. Pink and black go great together,
This design on the right also has a wind tail. The rainbow colors are perfectly meshed together in light color shades. The wind tail on this tattoo has more of a ripple effect associated with it, but it is a well drawn tattoo.
The butterfly design can also be used in specific styles of tattooing, such as the Celtic style that is seen on the right. Just like the Japanese design that was above, the butterfly can also be used in Celtic art.
THE MEANING OF THE BUTTERFLY
A lot of women that get the butterfly tattoo really don't understand the overall meaning of the tattoo design. For many, the butterfly design doesn't hold any symbolic meaning. Although that is true, for others, it does.
The butterfly stands for transformation among many cultures. The metamorphosis of the butterfly stands for the journey from childhood to adulthood, the transformation to an adult. It symbols the journey we take to grow up and mature. It is also a symbol of beauty and diversity among many cultures as well. The butterfly symbols the overall change a person endures during this stage of their life.
In Western culture, including Japan, one butterfly stands for womanhood and two butterflies stand for marital bliss amongst partners. It is also shared by other cultures.
Even cultures of the past used symbolic meaning from the butterfly. The Aztecs used the butterfly in their spiritual beliefs. They believed that butterflies stood for the souls of the dead. It was also used symbolically within the culture when women died giving birth to their children. It was also used in Mexico and South America for similar reasons.
Overall, the butterfly has many meanings in many different cultures, but transformation seems to be the constant symbolic message from the design. Either way it goes, the butterfly is the top choice of design among women of many cultures, symbolic or not.
If you are thinking about getting a butterfly tattoo or this is your first tattoo, please make sure you go to a tattoo artist that you completely trust. Ask if you can see images of different color schemes for the butterfly design. If the butterfly is what you are considering, be sure to read the tips above. If you are into dark shades and colors, perhaps the butterfly design is not for you. Brighter colors help the butterfly design stand out more. Shop around for an artist and try to read reviews on them or look at past tattoos they have done.
Don't rush into a tattoo by all means. This is something you will wear for the rest of your life. You want to make sure you take the time out to do your research. HBN, thanks for coming by and for your time, votes, and comment. I am hoping all is well in the "D" of the east coast. I also like that one the best. I love the design and the baby blue color. Thanks for taking the time to look it over and read it HBN. Best wishes.
I love butterflies, and you have a beautiful selection of them here. I never got a real tattoo, but sometimes I get the henna kind that last for a little while. One of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen was a migration of Monarch butterflies in the Fall. It was a long time ago, and my husband (then BF) and I were hiking somewhere near the Delaware Water Gap. They are the orange and black ones, and we saw thousands of them. It was amazing. Of course, we had no camera, and back then there were no cell phones. We both never forgot the wonderful experience and were grateful we had a chance to witness it. I would pick # 18! You worked hard on this and it really shows!
I have mixed emotions about tattoos. They are OK on other young people, but I don't want my own kids getting them. This is a great Hub on the subject, with lots of good photos, though.I voted it UP, etc.etc.
Really cool hub. I really like the pics.
Jean, thank you for taking the time to check this article out and for leaving a comment. That would be a sight to see for sure. That would have made a great photo for certain. Thanks for noticing the work, that really makes it worthwhile Jean. Best wishes and I shall read some of your work as well. Take care:)
Mary, thanks for coming back my dear. i hope you are doing fine. I do appreciate your opinions and I know you don't approve of tattoos on your girls and I value that. I do appreciate you commenting on my work though. Thanks and best wishes.
Zzron, thanks for taking the time to comment and to come by my friend. I am glad you enjoyed the images. Take care and best wishes.

Prasetio
Mentalist, thanks for coming by my friend and thanks for the comment and your time. It really is a beautiful tattoo design and women can do a lot with this tattoo. The wide variety of colors that can be used make these tattoos a great choice.
This was great overall and the images are stunning. However, I was especially impressed by the tips on how to balance the colors esthetically and the explanation of the cultural significance of butterflies. Voted up for sure!
lyricwriter,
I voted up, beautiful and awesome, and I loved the lavender and purple shades, as they are my two favorite colors. However, I like the tiger butterfly, also. I always wanted a hummingbird tattoo, but I never got one. This hub was so delightful, it lit up my smile as I read it.
This was an educational, beautiful, delightful and so very different from the normal hub. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing your everlasting and growning talent for us to see and enjoy.
Your Hub Friend,
Bobbi
Prasetio, thanks for coming by and you are right, we can all look at this in an artistic view as well. I have no issue with tattoo, but I can appreciate what a tattoo artist does. It is no easy task for them. Painters and those who draw can start over. Not the same for a tattoo artist. Thanks for coming by and take care.
Donna, thanks for taking the time to read it and I appreciate your gratitude. Thanks for pointing that out and I am glad you enjoyed the tips. Take care my friend and see you soon.
All the tattoos are beautiful, very interesting layout. Thank you Ricky..
Bobbi, thanks for coming by and I appreciate your time and comment. I am glad you thought highly of this article. I always try to add as much info as I can. Thanks and best wishes.
Hi Ricky
I like the first one the best.
Voted up and beautiful.
Have a good evening.
Another job well done. Great to be able to read the explanations and have the picture right there to look at. I can see why women like these lovely butterfly tattoos. Is ir because the butterflies seem to symbolize feminity in a way that no guys ever get butterfly tattoos? What about the butterfly with the tiger face couldn't a guy get away with a tattoo like that?
AE, thanks for coming by and I appreciate the comment my friend. Thanks for everything and best wishes.
Sueswan, I agree. I put this one first cause the color, design, and style is perfect. I would recommend it to anyone unsure of their butterfly tattoo. Thanks and you have a great evening as well my dear:)
Hey there Gypsy. First, thanks for coming by and to answer your question, yes. I actually believe this one is a male, looks like a male arm to me. I just wanted to lay out the idea of a tattoo in a tattoo per say. I was worried that may be brought up when I loaded the picture:) What can I say? I am working with what I got! I wouldn't get one done like that, but everyone is different. The butterfly has meaning to some men I am sure of. Personally, I would pick a dolphin before a butterfly. Thanks for coming by. I hope all is well and I am on my way by.
Hi thank you so much for this one because I have been haroing on about having a tattoo for ages and I love buterflies so this is the ideal hub forme.
Therefore an up up and away plus a bookmark into 'My most useful hubs'.
I will let you know when I have one done.
Take care and I wish you a great day.
Eddy.
Eddy, thanks for coming by and I appreciate your kind words my friend. I believe it would be a great tattoo for you and a safe choice as well. I am glad you found it useful. You have a great day as well and I will catch you later.
wow. your hub was beautifully written to match the gorgeous tattoos pictured. i love the detail put into a butterfly tattoo but i can't seem to make up my mind which one i want to get. Thank you for giving me some great choices to pick from.
Landscapeartist, thanks for the visit. I agree. The butterfly is very popular among women. I am glad you were able to get a few ideas on a butterfly tattoo. I like the colors of the top two, soft blue and pink. Adding designs to a butterfly tattoo sits it off also.

Very comprehensive and well written hub about butterfly tattoos. I like the first one best. Am not surprised that butterflies are so popular for the women as even without its symbolic meaning, most women think butterflies are beautiful and they're also very colorful.
I like that you added so many photos to the hub and also reminded people to be take their time when deciding on a design and to use a tattoo artist that they trust.
Voted up, useful, awesome, beautiful and interesting.
