Did you know that there are many products that you use everyday that you can make by using other products found in your home with little effort? I have listed some of these items that you can make to replace the high cost products you buy at the store. You can also use these tips and hints if you run out of the product and you are tight on money.

So, what am I talking about? Just too name a few, you can make furniture polish and all-purpose cleaner out of products that are in your house. How many times have you looked for furniture polish and there is none? By using these helpful hints, you can apply them to your life just in case you run out of a certain product or you may just want to use your own. Either way, you will have the knowledge to make these products on your own. How you use them, well, that is up to you.

MAKING HOMEMADE FURNITURE POLISH

At one time or another, we have ran out of furniture polish or we haven't had none to use. You don't have to worry about that anymore. Just follow these simple instructions and you will have furniture polish that works just like it came from the store.

  • 4 teaspoons of olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons of water
  • 8 tabelspoons of lemon juice or 1 lemon

You want to use a spray bottle of some type. You then mix all the ingredients together inside the bottle. Make sure you mix it for a few minutes. If you want to make more, just double the recipe above. After it has been mixed good, spray it on and wipe it off. The recipe above will give you a decent amount of furniture polish to use.

HOMEMADE ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER

This all-purpose cleaner can be used just like what you buy at the store. Just like any cleaning product, we eventually run out of it, most times when we need it the much. I have tried this recipe myself and it works very well. It does just as good as other cleaning products. Just follow these instructions and you will have homemade all-purpose cleaner.

  • one quart of warm water
  • 4 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of bleach

Once again, try to use a spray bottle and mix all the ingredients up. You want to mix them for a minute or two. Once you are done mixing, you can then use your all-purpose cleaner. It does very well on the stove, on counters, and wiping off appliances in the kitchen.

HOMEMADE FLY TRAP

I don't know about you, but I have had a big issue with gnats and flies this year. Every time that I think I no longer have them, they begin to appear like magic. I have bought fly traps all summer long and I believe others have been having issues as well because they are always sold out of them. But now, I have the ingredients to make my own fly traps and that is what I am using now. Here is what you need.

  • 1 glass drinking cup
  • plastic wrap
  • apple cider vinegar

Make sure you use a glass cup. You have to make sure it is apple cider vinegar because it attracts the flies. They love the smell. You need to fill the cup up with the vinegar. Fill it nearly half full. Take the wrap and wrap the entire top. Make sure there is no way out on the sides. Then, take a pencil or pen to poke holes in the top of the wrap. The flies will enter, but they won't find their way out. This works really well. I have caught more flies with this then the traps I bought at the store.

HOMEMADE TOILET CLEANER

We can use these tips when we run out of the regular product. Eventually, we all run out of our cleaning products or forget to buy them. You can use this recipe to clean your toilet. Just be careful of the reaction that it will make when the ingredients combine. Keep away until it clears out.

  • 1/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 1/3 cup of baking soda

You want to sprinkle the baking soda around the toilet bowl first. Then, you will add the vinegar to the outer bowl also. Make sure you keep your head clear of the bowl area. A chemical reaction will probably occur. Wait 15 seconds then proceed cleaning the toilet bowl. You want to add it directly to the bowl and not in a spray bottle. Once you have stood clear, use a toilet brush and clean.

CARPET FRESHENER

I have always found these ingredients very useful around the house, especially if you have pets. With the rising cost of all these products, it is much cheaper to make your own products these days. Of course, you need the ingredients to make it, but in the long run, you can save all kinds of money by using these recipes. Here is the one for carpet freshener.

  • 3/4 cup of baking soda
  • 1/3 cup of perfumed talcum powder
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.

Once again, you will need to mix them all up for a minute or so. Once you are finished, sprinkle on your carpet. Let it stand for a few minutes and them you can vacuum it up. If you want a stronger sent, add a touch more of talcum powder. This is very good to keep around if you have pets. It works really well..

WINDOW CLEANER

You can usually get window cleaner fairly cheap, but what happens when you run out and have no way to the store? You can use this helpful recipe to clean your windows and all other glass surfaces. It is really easy to make. You want to be precise on this recipe, so I will give you two options for sizes.

  • 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
  • 1 quart of water

This one is for a larger quantity of window cleaner.

  • 1/2 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 gallon of water

I have used this recipe and it does work good. In the past, I always used this for my car. Window cleaner adds up and you really use a lot of it in your car during the winter. That is why I added two different sizes. With winter vastly approaching, you can keep yourself stocked up on window cleaner with these ingredients.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • DRAINS- When it comes to dealing with drains, you can boil hot water and pour it down the drain. The hot water will usually eat through most things clogging the drain.
  • STAINLESS STEEL CLEANER- All you need to make stainless steel cleaner is 1 quart of water and 2 1/4 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix them together in a spray bottle for a few minutes and then it is ready to use.
  • FABRIC SOFTENER- This is a product that I always run out of. You can use a 1/2 cup of vinegar as a natural fabric softener to any full load.
  • UNDILUTED WHITE VINEGAR- Undiluted white vinegar has many natural uses. You can add it to hard to clean pots and pans. Just add water and let it soak. You can use it for cleaning as well. It is good for cleaning counters, appliances, and bathroom sinks and toilets.

Thank you for your comment Rochelle. They get more expensive as the days roll on. For someone in business, they can experiment with these products and make their own if they wish.

Blairtracy, I appreciate your consideration sweetie. There is always a time and place when we run out of one of these items and most of us have baking soda in the fridge. Hey there Nell. I will have to try that. I never thought of mint. I don't know about the flies but they have been bad this year! Everyone that I talk to has had issues with them this season. I welcome the colder air cause I am tired of them flying in my nose, ears, and biting on my legs. Stupid flies:( Take care my dear Nell. See you soon.

A super hub with super ideas. The carpet freshner was a new one for me so thank you for that. The fly trap is one I didn't know either, I loath flys even just one.

I use vinegar for many things it is great also for soaking the shower head in. It eases aches and pains and relaxes if you pour some in your bath water.

Voted this one up, it not only saves money but helps the environment too.

Thanks so much for the information. We all need to save money and believe me that stuff that comes spraying out of those aerosol cans can kill you. Better homemade stuff. Incidently all the recipes that require vinegar the vinegar can also be replaced with cheap vodka. I know it can be expensive to use vodka but did read that it also cleans windows and such. I will use the vinegar myself.

Great tips! I have also used vinegar and baking soda for clogged drains. It works pretty well if they're not too clogged. I'm going to try your carpet freshener. I have pets and have tried baking soda. Adding the other two ingredients, especially the scented powder, should work much better. I've heard that vinegar works as fabric softener. I'll definitely do that--so much cheaper. I'm always looking to save money--AND live greener. Lots of votes on this hub from me!
