Heart Tattoos, Ideas, Designs, And Meanings; Heart Tattoo Variations
When it comes to popular designs, the heart design is popular and one of the most well known symbols in the world. Throughout the years, the heart has been portrayed around the world and is one of the most symbolic designs ever known. Hearts have been represented in 4th century cultures and in modern day. When it comes to the heart tattoo, sailors were some of the first people to embrace the design.
One of the best things about the heart tattoo is the fact that it has a variety of different variations and meanings. You can nearly ask anyone what the heart represents and they will tell you "love". That is correct, the heart symbol and heart tattoo most commonly represent "love" or "true love". Even as children, we occasionally signed hearts in our letters or on our folders. When we write I love you, we write it with a heart. Even thousands of years ago, ancient cultures embraced the heart symbol and made it what it is today.
When it comes to the heart tattoo, there are all kinds of different variations of the tattoo. Each heart tattoo variation has different designs and meanings. Some of the most popular heart tattoo designs are the pierced heart, hearts with arrows, and the Sacred Heart. These designs come in a large variety of different colors. The traditional tattoos usually use black and red. In modern times, blue, green, yellow, purple, pink, and orange are all used in these tattoos.
Heart tattoos are inked with a variety of different characters as well. Flowers, crowns, angels, Christ, wings, daggers, swords, and ribbons are all used in heart tattoos. Couples often tend to get their names inked in the heart tattoo design. The heart tattoo is often associated with moms as well. Early sailors commonly would get this tattoo to show love and respect to their mom. Even at this age in time, "MOM" tattoos are a very popular choice among men in the military and army.
The heart tattoo can also represent passion, sincerity, and compassion. It is said that "the heart is the source of all knowledge". For example, if you were to get a heart tattoo with a dog, this tattoo would symbolize your love for the dog. Another example, say you are someone that loves flowers. You could use the heart tattoo to symbolize your feelings about the flower. The heart tattoo is one of those tattoo designs that allow you to be creative. You can nearly make your own design and meaning with them because the heart represents many things in the eye of the beholder. So in such cases, your heart tattoo may represent what you want it to represent.
The tattoo on the right is the locked heart tattoo. You really don't see this design around that much, which makes it unique. Locked heart tattoos usually have a padlock or keyhole in the tattoo. In this case, it is a keyhole. This particular tattoo represents love for a single person. The wearer of this tattoo would use this design to represent that they only have eyes for one person and they are taken. Couples may think about considering this design and get matching tattoos. And as you can see, flowers and a ribbon is included in the tattoo design.

HEART TATTOO VARIATIONS
The heart tattoo is a very symbolic tattoo. There are many different variations of tattoo designs that are associated with the heart. The heart tattoo can be portrayed in several different ways, which includes arrows, daggers, wings, halo, and flames just to mention a few. Before you choose your heart tattoo design, make sure you learn all the different designs and meanings.
The Sacred Heart tattoo is the most symbolic heart design there is. The Sacred Heart tattoo is usually surrounded by thorns, a crown, a pierced sword, or it may be shown burning. This design has been used for centuries as a Catholic symbol. Most of us have saw this symbol at one time or another. This Sacred Heart has been portrayed in several different Christian paintings that show Jesus with the Sacred Heart. If you are a Christian and you want a tattoo, the Sacred Heart is well represented with an association to Christ. It can represent one's faith in Christianity.
The flaming heart tattoo is a popular choice among heart tattoo designs. The flaming heart tattoo represents a strong love and strong passion. The flames represent the intense heat of passion. It represents a "burning love". A person that is head over hills for someone may get this tattoo to represent that love, that passion. There is another variation to the flaming heart tattoo. Some of these flaming hearts may contain a black heart. This represents heartache, brought forth from a passionate relationship that ended to soon. Others may use the flaming black heart tattoo to represent a lost love or death.
The broken heart tattoo basically represents what it is called, a broken heart. This tattoo may represent someone that has had their heart broken in life. To be honest, we all could probably wear a few of these designs. We all get our heart broke at one time or another. But, the broken heart tattoo has another associated meaning. The broken heart tattoo can also represent a long distance relationship. We all have to go our separate ways at points in our life. The broken heart tattoo doesn't always represent a lost love. Just as in this case, it can represent the miles and miles between the two. The tattoo can be there to remind them of how sacred that love is.
The pierced heart tattoo is probably the most common heart tattoo there is. They usually have an object pierced through the heart. They are usually pierced with a sword, dagger, or arrows. If you see the heart and arrows design, this is usually a symbol of the god of love Cupid. Most of us have heard of Cupid from one time or another. Cupid shoots magic arrows at people so they will fall in love.
The dagger heart tattoo can have a positive and negative meaning associated with the design. The dagger heart tattoo can represent bravery and courage. The dagger heart can also represent grief, sorrow, or a long lasting struggle. In this case, the heart tattoo doesn't have to represent a broken heart. It can symbolize the death of a loved one or a long struggle. It all depends on you when it comes to the heart tattoo meaning. The heart doesn't always symbolize love and heartache.
You may see the stitched heart tattoo ever now and then. This design can also represent different meanings. The stitched heart or knitted heart can represent a broken heart that has been healed or it can represent a broken heart or lost love. You may have had your heart broke by someone and a special person came along and swept you off your feet. You could consider the stitched heart tattoo to represent this.
Another heart tattoo designs is the heart with wing tattoo. The heart with wings tattoo symbolizes freedom, a free spirit, or free soul. The heart and soul are commonly associated with each other and it is symbolized in this tattoo. Another design is the bleeding heart tattoo. The bleeding heart tattoo represents a lost love. It doesn't have to represent a partner, this may represent the loss of a parent, brother, grandma, sister, friend, or sibling.

So many different heart designs! Amazing how creative people can be when it comes to the symbol of love. I would prefer a beautiful heart though, having a tattoo of a broken heart will probably last longer than the broken heart! Great hub and thanks for all the interesting information about heart tattoos! Voted up, interesting
Tina
Beautiful artwork.
Once again a great hub full of useful information. Always well researched and always well laid out.
We never think of a tattooist as being an artist but they truly are. There are some really creative intricate designs for tattoos.
Are you a tattooist Ricky?
Voting up across the board
Im telling you thelyricwriter these hubs should be a collection of e-books and sold on Amazon.. you'll have a biker following but who cares right? Great as usual :)
Gypsy, thanks for your visit again. I never thought about that, what a great Valentine's present hey! Hope your having a great day and take care.
Thoughtforce, thanks for taking the time to drop by and check it out. Interesting perspective on the broken heart I must say. You make a good point. Two things strike me when it comes to the heart tattoo. One, there is a bunch of different styles and designs that can be chosen with rich symbolic meaning. Two, the heart is more welcomed as a tattoo, probably more then any other design or symbol. But in contrast, who wants a broken heart tattoo to remind them of pain and hurt? That I don't understand. Hope your doing good Tina and I am on my way to your page.
Naomi, thanks for taking the time to look at this page. It is much appreciated. Have a good one.
Rosemay, thanks for coming by again and for your remark and question. I have been thinking about it because I am an artist. I love to draw and create my own designs. I have always wanted to create logos for companies, sport teams, ect. I just find tattoos very interesting. I love the history behind them, what they stand for. I believe my articles can change the way people view them. Yes, some are inappropriate, but some are very symbolic to the wearer.
Frank, thanks for stopping by and for your comment pal. I wouldn't say I don't care? I have heard about ebooks, but that is about it. It would be nice to make a fair amount of money for my work though. May be something I may check on. Appreciate your words Frank, I truly do.
I liked the little heart on the ankle, they were all beautiful. The tattoo artist is amazing..Thank you..
AE, thanks for dropping by and hope all is well. I like the cute little ankle designs for sure. Perfect for a female tattoo.
Yeah, and for the heart a tattoo of a heart should indefinitely symbolize a notion of heartfelt emotion; such as a broken heart, strong heart; bleeding heart, etc.I'm really glad that you posted these, now I know for sure my design is the one for me.
Red Sugar33, thanks for taking the time to comment. Always enjoy the feedback. Absolutely. A bleeding heart would be perfect. May want to add blue tears instead of red blood. Just a suggestion only. Your right on though. Hope you gained everything you need Red Sugar33. The pleasure is mine.
