The Greeks also referred to the orchid as the "Flower of Magnificence".













There are actually over 25,000 different species of orchids found all over the world. Cymbidium, Dendrobium, and Vanilla orchids are some of the most popular species of the orchid. With all the symbolic meanings associated to the orchid and the mass variety of different types, it is no wonder the orchid is so popular. The orchid is a graceful and elegant flower. Although it grows in the wild, the orchid is one of the most popular household plants next to the peace lily. The orchid is also considered to be an expensive flower.













There are a variety of different uses for the orchid that was portrayed many years ago. In such places as China, Africa, Germany, and Egypt, the orchid was considered to be a love potion and aphrodisiac. Many Asian cultures believed that the orchid was a symbol of something precious and rare. It is believed that the Aztecs drunk vanilla orchid with chocolate to give them strength and power.













Some cultures believed that the orchid could determine the sex of their children. It was believed that if the father would eat orchids, then the child would be born a male. If the woman would eat orchids, the child that was born would be female. This is just another example of the many sexual associations that cultures share with the orchid flower. This all represents one of the symbolic meanings of the orchid flower, fertility.













Since there are so many species of the orchid flower, the orchid comes in a variety of different colors, such as red, pink, blue, orange, and yellow to name a few. As a tattoo, the orchid can come in nearly every color available. The orchid is tropical in nature and they are usually bright in color.
