PIT BULL HISTORY AND REPUTATION
When it comes to popular dog breeds all across the world, no other dog breed receives more attention then the pit bull. In tattoos and art, the pit bull is portrayed more then any other dog breed. The pit bull originated from England, Ireland, and Scotland. It later found its way to America when immigrants crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The pitt bull is a popular dog breed that originated from cross breeding a bull terrier and a bulldog.
The pit bull breed has been viewed as a dangerous breed to own. At first, pit bulls were bred for hunting. Later on, it gained the bad reputation of how it is viewed today, as a dog-fighter. Pit bulls have been forced to fight each other to the death and other fighting dogs of different breeds. These fights are to the death and if an injured pit bull was lucky enough to survive, it would either be turned loose to die or be killed. Some of the more recent claims here in the United States where dog-fighting was found include rapper DMX and Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Mike Vick.
Even though many people consider the pit bull a dangerous breed, they are really not. A dog can be trained to do what you tell them. In fact, the pit bull is one of the smartest dogs around. My friend breeds pit bulls and the parents are some of the best dogs a man could have. Pit bulls are very loyal to their owner or master. It all depends on how they have been treated. The television show "Pit bulls and Parolees" is a perfect example of how a stray pit bull can be transformed into a great dog to own. Most pit bulls that have been left on the streets usually have a fighting background associated with them. In most cases, this is why they act aggressive when someone or another dog comes around. Most of them are trained to fight dogs or even humans. Owners will use physical violence toward the dog and it turns the pit bull into a violent dog. It is acts like this that give the pit bull breed the bad reputation that they carry.
When you really take a close look at the pit bull, they are truly beautiful dogs. Pit bull owners will often take a photo of their dog and get it tattooed on them. We can take a look at the tattoo on the right for an example. This is a beautiful white pit bull. This particular tattoo is a head shot, which means only the head is portrayed in this tattoo. The tattoo artist that did this pit bull tattoo did a wonderful job capturing the beauty of this dog. This tattoo is a realistic tattoo that has symbolized the dog in its natural look. This tattoo is a common tattoo that an owner would get to symbolize the love for their dog.
Some pit bull tattoos have the pit bull with their teeth showing or a mean looking face. These tattoos can represent a few different things. There is a lot of pit bull tattoos that represent "fight to death". Since pit bull dogs are often trained to be fighting dogs, many people will get this tattoo to represent the fight they have in them. A boxer or cage fighter would be a great example of a person that would choose this representation. Some people are street fighters or just enjoy fighting. These are the people that will typically get the pit bull tattoo to symbolize the fight to death motto.

PIT BULL TATTOO MEANINGS AND DESIGNS
Pit bull tattoos represent a variety of different meanings, some positive and some negative. As you read earlier, the pit bull is widely known to be a fighting dog breed. They are often used illegally to fight other pit bulls or other fighting dogs. One of the most common meanings is that the pit bull dog represents a "fighter". Someone who is a boxer or street fighter may consider this to represent their love for fighting. The pit bull is a very popular tattoo on the streets. They can also be traced back to street gangs or the mob. In this case, the pit bull tattoo can represent "toughness" or "high ranking". Many people consider the pit bull the toughest dog breed in the world, rightfully so. Once a pit bull locks their jaws, it can be very difficult to get them to let go. When pit bulls fight, they are trained to go for the neck and not let go. This toughness and tough life can be associated to a gang members life on the streets. In this case, the pit bull tattoo symbolizes that lifestyle.
Another meaning for the pit bull tattoo is "fearless". This is more of a positive meaning then negative. It is said that the pit bull fears nothing. In such cases, the pit bull is used to represent someone that has no fear. Someone in the military may get a pit bull tattoo to represent they fear nothing or no one. This meaning can also once again be associated to a boxer, cage fighter, or street fighter. On a positive note, the pit bull tattoo can represent to have no fear in life. This can represent someone going through very hard times or someone that feels like they have been through hell and back. Many of the meanings that the pit bull tattoo has is symbolic to the pit bull's characteristics and nature.
There are also a lot of people that get the pit bull tattoo to represent their love for their own breed or for their own pit bull. If there is one thing that pit bull owners do, it is the fact that they all stand together when it comes to the pit bull breed. They are a strong group of people that want the world to know that the pit bull breed is often portrayed in a bad way. To pit bull owners and lovers of the pit bull breed, nothing symbolizes that love like a pit bull tattoo. In such cases, the owner will take a photo of their pit bull and get it tattooed on them. Others may just decide to choose a quality pit bull design that is portrayed in a realistic form.
Pitt bull tattoos can be designed in a few different ways. Some pit bull tattoos are portrayed realistic, in cartoon form, or with their teeth showing. As I said before, pit bull owners that want to represent their love for the breed or their own pit bull will usually choose the realistic design of the pit bull depicted in a natural way. Other tattoos have the pit bull depicted as a cartoon character. These type of tattoos usually have a motto or quote associated with the cartoon pit bull. I have seen a few where the pit bull has boxing gloves and some are portrayed playing poker. The other class of pit bull tattoos match their terrible image. These tattoos show a growling or loud barking pit bull. Some will even have blood dripping from their teeth.
There are also a few different ways the pit bull is portrayed in tattoo design as well. More common then not, many pit bull tattoos show only the head. Sometimes, they will include a collar and some include a spiked collar. There are also many pit bull tattoos that include the entire body, in a realistic form. Most of the pit bull cartoon tattoos portray the entire body. More often then not, the pit bull is dressed in clothing and accessories. You may also want to consider getting a tattoo that represents the softer side of the pit bull tattoo. Pit bull puppy tattoos offer a pit bull lover/owner a great tattoo without all the bad rap that is associated with the pit bull's reputation.
There are also a few different designs that stand out when it comes to the pit bull tattoo. You may see the grim reaper in some pit bull tattoos. These tattoos represent death. You will also see pit bull tattoo designs that have flames in them. This type of tattoo is said to be a popular design. The flames in the tattoo are said to represent hell. Some people choose to get flowers in their pit bull tattoos to offer a softer side of the pit bull. It is the perfect tattoo for a fighter or a pit bull lover. The pit bull tattoo represent good and bad, just like it is symbolized in nature.

Very informative, and I don't care what people say but the dog is really precious. Beautiful tattoos, too.
Interesting to see the range of tattoos on an animal that gets a bad rep -- all the way from friendly to fierce. Voting this Up and Beautiful.
These are a bit scary to me. I think it's because of the history of the Pit Bull, but like you pointed out, they are taught to be mean by some owners. The artist does amazing work. Thank you for another outstanding article..
Thats some real...whats the word..dedication maybe, with the pit-bull tats. They look great if thats your thing. Guess it would say "no fear here"- Pits have their tendencies but a dog is what someone makes it. Interesting info and art lyric.
Funny thing is that I have been bitten several times by 'toy breeds' such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians, but never by my Pitbulls!
My youngest daughter used to sleep on them or with them in their dog bed!
As usual voted up and awesome. You do a good job on there tattoo hubs and the pics are always super. I'm passing this one on as I did with the rest.
